How to manage blind box duplicates

Record a duplicate immediately, keep its count separate from collection progress, and compare the missing list before another purchase. A tracker cannot change a sealed box’s contents; it can keep the decision honest.

Why duplicates become more common

Early in a series, most regular outcomes are new to you. Near completion, only a few outcomes fill a gap, so a random regular pull is increasingly likely to repeat something already owned. The exact risk depends on the series distribution and how boxes are packed — there is no universal duplicate rate for every brand.

Use copy count, not a second checklist

Keep one catalog entry for the figure and increase copies from one to two, three or more. This preserves a clean series total: the figure still contributes one completed slot, while duplicate inventory remains visible.

Keep “wanted” independent

Wanted is a decision; rarity is a catalog fact. A regular figure can be your priority, and a secret can be irrelevant to your set. Keeping those concepts separate prevents the app — or the odds printed on a box — from choosing your collection for you.

A five-second post-pull routine

1. Open the correct brand and series.
2. Mark the figure owned or increment its existing copy count.
3. Add a personal photo if the variant needs visual confirmation.
4. Check the missing and wanted filters before the next purchase.
5. Share a collection or pull card only if it is useful — never automatically.

What a tracker does not solve

It does not identify the contents of a sealed box, guarantee a secret, price a trade, or protect a transaction with another collector. BoxDex deliberately has no in-app marketplace in the MVP; moderation, fraud and disputes are a different product.
